Artists Run the Streets: Art & Advocacy for Physical & Mental Health

For Art’s Sake Presents: The Cleveland Marathon Mural
May 17th | Cleveland Marathon Finish Line

As thousands of runners make their final strides through downtown Cleveland on May 17th, they’ll be met by a bold symbol of strength, progress, and community: the Cleveland Marathon Mural, presented by For Art’s Sake.

This public art installation transforms the finish line into more than just an endpoint — it becomes a canvas for advocacy. Designed to spark awareness about Cleveland’s physical health challenges, the mural invites all participants and spectators to reflect on the power of movement. With local rates of obesity and chronic illness on the rise, it’s never been more important to inspire healthier lifestyles.

We invite runners to stop, reflect, and take a photo with the mural — capturing not just their achievement, but their alignment with a broader cause. Creative and athletic communities can unite to send a powerful message: health is a journey, and every step, every stroke, every story matters.

We invite you for this citywide celebration of endurance and wellness. Whether you're running, cheering, or simply passing by, join us in using art to amplify movement — and turn the Cleveland Marathon into a launchpad for change.

Cuyahoga County: In 2022, 37.8% of adults in Cuyahoga County were classified as obese, surpassing the national average.

Ohio Statewide: Approximately 36% of Ohio adults met the criteria for obesity in 2024, positioning Ohio as the 11th highest in the nation for adult obesity rates.
